Nestled in among lush landscaped gardens, Arcadia and neighbouring co-ops Harbour Channel Housing Co-operative, Harbourside Co-operative Homes Inc., and Windward Co-operative Homes Inc., have each won Garden of Distinction awards from the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto for excellence in landscape design.
Harbourfront Community Centre, located one block from Arcadia on Queen’s Quay at Bathurst Street, offers a variety of programs including parents & tots drop-in, aerobics, after-four program for children and teens. Scadding Court Community Centre at Bathurst and Dundas is equipped with a gym, an indoor swimming pool, summer day camp, short term and emergency daycare, and youth employment programs.
The recently opened Fort York Library is just up the street. Also nearby is the Sanderson Library, next door to Scadding Court Community Centre. Palmerston Library with its fantastic children’s section is also nearby on Palmerston Avenue three blocks west of Bathurst Street.
Elementary schools in the area are the Centre Island Public School, the Waterfront School at Bathurst and Queen’s Quay. In the same building is City School Alternative High School. Central Technical School is at at Bloor & Bathurst and the Ontario College of Art and Design at Dundas & McCaul also provide high school and post-secondary level courses.
The Queen West Community Health Centre located on Bathurst Street offers health, dental, counseling and advocacy services to area residents.
